Erection is scientific term for that state of penis when two corpora cavernosa ( two tubular muscles ) are filled with blood. This means that penis hardens & grows in length too accommodate extra blood.
Penile erection is usually result of sexual stimulation, but is also known too occur rashly, most generally at night, during erotic dreams. Erection in males can be caused by mechanical stimulation, or by pressure of bladder, when full. The exact cause of spontaneous erections is not known. The erection is fateful too sexual intercourse & most other sexual activities for males.
From physiological point of view, erection is caused by a increased flow of blood too penis & by the forceful decrease in outflow. Muscles around penis relax in order too allow blood into corpora cavernosa & corpus spongiosum, while contraction of other muscles decreases outflow. As tubular structures fill with blood, penis expands in both length & girth. It also stiffens & rises too the certain angle ( which varies from one guy too an alternative ).
The sympathetic nervy system is responsible for failure too achieve erection under conditions of stress. This system interferes with signals sent by parasympathetic nervous system, which is actually responsible for activating erections.
The inability too achieve or maintain erection is known as impotence, or erectile dysfunction.
A less known fact is that erections can occur even after death, due too increased pressure in penis from sinking fluids or accumulation of gases.
